Three major conflicts in the story are ; what Katniss had to do to Peeta in the arena, when Prim was originally chosen for the hunger Games , and her defying the Capitol.
Prim was chosen to be part of of the Hunger Games. many people weren't very satisfied with this. But Katniss stepped up to the plate and took her sister's place in the games.This is a tough descion because by volunteering in the games it means certain death.But she does it to save her sister from death. This is what leads to the whole story , the event that triggers everything else in the story .
When Katniss defies the Capitol it is a major problem because not only did Katniss go against the rules of the Hunger Games but she humiliated the Capitol , which no one wants to do . Any ways the Capitol is watching her very , very closely when she returns from the arena because they want to see her mess up just once in order to completely destroy her.Katniss has to be very cautious and feels that even though she may have won the fighting to death , she has met her greatest challenge surviving the Capitol. In the end the Capitol lets her leave with Peeta to District 12 , but only with suspicions . The problem of her surviving the capitol so far has been resolved but I think it still hasn't been completely resolved.
The next problem was after Katniss had defied the Capitol by suriving the games along with Peeta. They had to go through may things in order to even leave the Capitol . In the end Peeta and Katniss used that the excuse that they were so madly in love with one another that they had to do this, and thus they left the Capitol, but soon Peeta finds out Katniss was only playing with Peeta because she needed to survive and when he asks her what is left between them she can't say because she does not know . This is one of the 2 conflicts that in my opinion have not been resolved.

Dear Katniss,
Hi! Its been such a long time since I have seen your straight black hair , olive skin , and gray eyes . I miss your personality the way you always struggled to get the best for best for Prim and your mother . Although I know that you have lost all trust in your mother since she left , mentally. I'm sorry for that time . Yet ever since that time it seems to me that you have grown strong without the help of many people . I really admire your hunting skills and the way you can find a meaning behind things. Katniss you are the bravest person I know , you know how to treat a friend and I will not forget what you have gone through and I am sure you will not forget.
I remember in he arena when killed the boy that speared rue . It was the right thing to do , a life for a life and that's just what you did. Also when you were with peeta you know those moments weren't feigned , you felt safe and secure with him and I respect that . But at the moment when he found out what was reaelly happened , that all the things you 2 went through in the caves were faked , I cried becuase I knew you had done something extremely difficult, something that can't be explained with words.
All the things that you did in the arena and outside of it are the things that I would have done , because I'm like you stubborn, honest, brave , stragiht foward , and I can go on forever. On the thing about Peeta do the only thing that can be done ; tell him the truth.

Setting
The settings in this story are few : District 12 , the Capitol, and the arena.
The first setting mentioned was District 12 where Katniss lives. She struggles everyday to survive in this brutal place . In the book the section that Katniss lives in District 12 is called the Seam because it is where the coal miners and poor of District 12 live . It is described as a rundown place , certainly not the fanciest there every was. Things looked depressing at times and very simple. District 12 also has a wood forest on its outskirts . It has many hills that surround it . The forest a;so has a river that runs along the forest and is filled with many fish and water plants . The forest is an escape for Katniss from the harsh life she lives in the Seam .
The Capitol is a beautiful place. It has tall buildings that reach for the sky . The building seem to glisten in rainbow of hues. There were cars that shined while they went down the road . The people were oddly dressed and seem alien with their hair. But even though the Capitol looked spectacular to Katniss , they also seemed artificial they seemed fake . They either seemed to dark or light or didn't fit in at all .In the Capitol they stay in a training tower that had 12 floors for each district . Underground it had a a sort of like gym and that had many centers were you could learn different skills to the arena. Katniss prefered all the food that was given : rice, beans , etc.
The last setting was the arena where the other 22 tributes found their deaths . The arena was a valley that had a large lake and many rivers that ran from it . The arena also had a forest that surrounded the lake . At the end of the forest of the was a field , such a field that it was shoulder high with different kinds of plants that were eatable . Suzzane Collins
In 1991 Suzzanne Collins worked writing children's television scripts , she worked in Nickelodeon.suzzane also worked as the Head writer for the show Clifford's Puppy Days. Suzzanne has written many other books like Gregory and the Code Claw which is part of her 5 part series of the Underland Chronicles. She wrote this story thinking of the story Alice in Wonderland but in Ne York City where it is much more probable that you fall down a manhole than a rabbithole.
Speaking of inspiration when wirting the Hunger Games , Suzzane was channel surfing when she suddenly stopped to watch youths competing for who knows what . That's when she thought of the story for Katniss . Also she based the story on the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur . The city of Athens had to send 14 young people to die at the hands of the horrible Minotaur. Katniss is like a futuristic Theseus because katniss takes her sister's place in the games , like theseus who volunteers to go fight the Minotaur.

The Hunger Games
Sixteen year old , Katniss Everdeen lives in a world named Panem , which exists in the ruins of place once known as North America . Panem is ruled by a beautiful city called the Capitol with twelve districts The Capitol is ruthless with the twelve districts in order to keep them at bay from revolting once again like in the past. There once was a time when all the thirteen districts of Panem went against the Capitol . The districts were defeated but district thirteen was completely obliterated . The remaining districts were given something to remind them that if they rebelled again they would be destroyed like district thirteen . The districts were give the Hunger Games ; each district had to give two tributes, a boy and girl, the tributes would then be taken to the Capitol to go through a series of "tests" and then be put into an arena where they would all fight to death for the amusement of the Capitol . The remaining tribute would be the winner and be presented with gifts for them and their district. The torture in this was that you got to watch your friends die and must treat the Hunger Games like a festivity .
Well besides worrying about this Katniss also had to worry about bringing home food everyday for both her sister Prim and her mother. the story begins with Katniss waking up in District Twelve , she then gets dressed and heads for the woods outside the perimeter of the district where she meets with her hunting partner/best friend Gale. Today is Reaping Day , the day they get chosen to be in the Hunger Games so they don't have much time to stay in the woods. As Gale and Katniss wait for game to pass by Gale brings up a conversation , about them running away and being able to survive and having kids but they(or rather Katniss) quickly dismiss the conversation . After they get all that hunted for , they go together to the Hob and trade a few of their supplies for necessary things . Gale and Katniss go to the mayor's house to sell some strawberries , and they meet Madge there (she's the mayor's daughter who somtetimes hangs around Katniss because she keeps to herself) and Gale compliment's her reaping clothess and replies by saying , " Well if I end up going to the Capitol I want to look nice". This enrages Gale because he knows that she won't be going because she has only five entries and he has forty. Katniss says good luck to Madge who also says good luck and then Katniss leaves accomponied by Gale . They depart to get ready for the reaping, at home KAtniss wears her one of her mothers dresses . Katniss is worried about her sister Prim because this is Prim's first reaping . Prim, Kqatniss, an their mother head for the square where the people that eligible for the Hunger GAmes go . They are divide into age groups 12-18.
In the square they chose the first contestant for the Hunger Games. Primrose Everdeen. Katniss does the only thing she can do to save her beloved sister, take her place as tribute. Then the boy tribute is chosen , Peeta Mellark the boy who gave Katniss hope and to whom she feels she owes a debt. So after they are chosen they go into a building to see people before they go to the Capitol . The last person to see Katniss is Gale who gives her advice and when is about to tell her something important but is ripped apart from her .
Katniss and Peeta go on board a train to the Capitol. When they get to the Capitol they are dressed and ride throughout the city where the steal the spotlight while holding hands. Then they enter the training center where their training for the Hunger Games begins. After a week of training once again Peeta and Katniss are dressed for their interview , there all of the other tributes are to have a 3 minute interview. Katniss gets interviewed, then Peeta who admits he is in love with her, ouch.
The next day they and the other tributes are put into the arena, where the fight to the death begins. When Katniss steps onto the arena there is a Cornucopia loaded with weapons, food, and etc. Even though Katniss was told not to join the bloodfest at the Cornucopia , she goes straight for it because on top is the most useful thing she will find in the arena ; a bow and arrows . Katniss fails to get the bow and arrows but gets an orange pack of food , a large plastic, and a knife.
As Katniss prepares for the first night in the arena the Careers(an alliance made by the strong tributes) begin to hunt down the weaker opponents. That's when she finds out that her "beloved" Peeta had joined the Careers in order to stay alive , this is no matter for Katniss because she just thinks it is another obstacle. By morning Katniss is dying of thirst ,and begins to wonder why Haymitch hadn'tsent her water , she finds water because Haymitch with held it and she also made a discovery; she can communicate with Haymitch by the way he gives her gifts while she's in the arena .
Katniss has found water and safety but that doesn't last long when suddenly there's a fire and she knows its the Gamemakwers trying to add excitement to the Hunger Games . Katniss gets some burns but that's the least of her worries because she now has to deal with the Careers theywere driven together because of the fire. To escape the Careers clutches Katniss climbs atree which can't be climbed because the Careers are to heavy. Si the Careers decide to wait for Katniss to come downand they all fall asleep. Here's when Rue (girl tribute for district 11)comes to the rescue she shows Katniss a tracker jacker (kind of like killer bees but harsher) hive , so Katniss cuts down the hive and drops it onto the Careers , but with getting a few stings herself.
As the Careers escape to the lake from the tracker jackers Katniss escapes but remembers that one of the Careers that had gotten badly stung (and died) had her bow and arrows . Thus Katniss returns to the tree where she had climbed to get the weapons , but a mysterious thing happens Peeta sees Katniss and she is already very weak from the tracker jacker stings she , he has the chance to kill her but instead pushes her to safety away from him.
In district 12 people say you can go delusional from tracker jacker stings and that's what happened to Katniss. She awoke and remembered that Peeta saved her but she wasn't sure . Anyway she got her bow and arrows she shot a couple of weird birds and found out she had a shadow, little Rue. After they shared a meal Rue and katniss make a small alliance. Then conjure a plan to destroy the careers supplies. So Katniss goes t where the Careers had their food stashed while Rue tricked them by lighting a fire and running away. That's when Katniss finds out that there is security system around the supplies a really good security system : mines.
Katniss uses 3 of her precious arrows to set off all the mines with the cost of hearing in left ear . But Katniss is worried about little Rue and sets out to find , only to find her in a net . As soon as Katniss catches sight of Rue a spear goes through Rue's stomach by the boy tribute of district 1 , without thinking Katniss kills the boy and sings to Rue as a last request. Then Rue dies , and is taken away . The next day there is an announcement , that if 2 tributes from the same district survive they can both live . Of course this means katniss needs to find Peeta. So she searches for him only to find him gravely injured . Katniss nurses him back to health by risking her life and since Peeta is " in love with her" she acts that way .
Their little get away doesn't last because they have one last opponent to face , Clato from district 3 . They meet at the lake , but when Peeta and Katniss see him he is being chased by mutts ( mutations) , wolf mutations . Now as the 2 lovebirds and Clato barely escape the wolf mutts , Katniss realizes that the mutts are the fallen tributes. Never the less Katniss and Peeta manage to kill Clato and the mutts, but they get an announcement that there can only be 1 winner , Katniss and Peeta act as if they are going to eat poison berries and are quickly announced the winners.
So Peeta and KAtniss return to the Capitol to face a few final things and leave the Capitol.That's when Katniss finds out that Peeta truly did love her but Peeta also found out that Katniss had faked her love for him. When they arrive in the station of District 12 there is a mob of people on the platform and that's when Peeta stretches out his hand and says " One more time for the audience". Katniss knows she's lost the bopy with the bread, the boy who gave her hope, so holds his hand tightly ready to face the crowd and dreading the moment she has to let go of him.
